How to get rid of Business or House Mold
From a Homeowner's perspective, it is important to have a specialist who
is certified to inspect your home regularly; a mold inspection by such
a professional should also be performed prior to the purchase of a new
home. Trying to buy or sell a house with black toxic mold can lead to major financial issues. Steve Levy explains how mold can develop into such a large problem
: Mold spores comprise 25% of the world's biomass. Generally mold in the
outdoor environment is good because it's what helps biodegrade waste.
However, mold in the indoor environment can be hazardous to health if
left untreated. Mold infestations may be hidden in places such as vents,
wall cavities, even under floors and carpeting. With water being the key
ingredient for mold to grow, the extent of any water damage should not
be overlooked or ignored. Surprisingly, homes built over the last thirty
to forty years may be more susceptible to mold growth due to the building
materials used. Also, most newer homes don't allow for the proper air
ventilation which causes moisture. Retention of moisture stimulates present
dormant mold spores leading to mold growth.
Symptoms: Black Mold In the House or Your Surroundings
As with every subject, the
best way to deal with this problem is through education. We know that
water and moisture cause mold growth. How can we prevent such growth or
remediate it if it already exists? Steve Levy suggests the following:
Controlling moisture and water intrusion is your first line of defense.
Any water event within the home must be completely addressed (dried) within
24 to 48 hours to prevent problematic mold growth. Be on the look out
for the damp, humid conditions where mold thrives: Bath rooms with poor
ventilation, vents, clothes dryers and exhaust fans. Consider installing
a dehumidifier in chronically moist rooms, don't carpet damp areas. Insulate
pipes and other cold surfaces to discourage condensation, install storm
windows. Never delay minor maintenance and schedule proactive inspections
to search for leaks in the roof, pipes and/or high chronic moisture areas.
Last and certainly not least, consider having your home inspected. Mr.
Levy's company, Certified Mold Inspections, Inc. offers variety of options
ranging from basic testing to a comprehensive home mold inspection. Steve
